1.25 male - 2" female

Recommended Posts

The adaptor will allow 2" eyepieces to be used with a 1.25" focuser, but there

are two possible problems.

The first is that as the 2" ep is further out, it may not allow enough inward travel

to obtain focus.

The second issue is that you may get vignetting due to the reduced aperture

that the adaptor gives.

Maybe the supplier could advise, or perhaps allow a return if problems arise.

Regards, Ed.

I'm not sure it's worth trying to be honest. The whole point of 2" eyepieces is their 2" barrel which enables a wide field of view. As Ed says, the adapter would mean that you would be effectively going down to the 1.25" size again - losing the wide field of view.

I would either i) see if you can upgrade the focuser to a 2" fitting one or i) stick to widest field 1.25" eyepieces such as the 24mm Hyperion, 32mm Plossls, 24mm Panoptic etc (lots of £'s that last one !).

The 24mm Panoptic is the only Pan I've owned - that had quite comfortable eye relief. The Hyperion 24 is even better in that respect although it's not as sharp at the edges of the FoV in fast scopes. One option well worth considering if you can get one would be the Vixen LVW 22mm - a lovely eyepiece IMHO

This adapter is a highly specialised device, it will be useful if your scope needs an extension to get to focus and you have a requirement to use 2" accessories e.g. your 2x barlow for imaging is a TV Powermate. You can't get the full field that you would normally get with 2" accessories but for webcam imaging that is usually not an issue.

Stuffing 2" eyepieces into a 1.25" focuser is usually a Bad Move, even if you can get to focus with the length of the adapter you will undoubtedly get severe vignetting (reducing the apparent field width) and the weight of most 2" eyepieces is something that 1.25" focusers are not engineered to stand ...

My favourite "max real field" eyepiece for a 1.25" fitting is the 26mm Meade series 5000 Super Plossl - which is not expensive, has a good sharp image & fairly high contrast and works well in scopes down to at least f/5.
