Live colour images of deep sky? (samsung sdr-435)

Recommended Posts

Could you help me understand astrovideo and in turn help me decide on what scope to buy…?

Can you get live colour images of deep sky objects using astrovideo techniques?

e.g

http://vimeo.com/15022953

http://stargazerslounge.com/imaging-deep-sky/118310-video-footage-orion-nebula.html

Im wondering if the image integration process on some cctv cameras (like the Samsung sdr-435) give live colour images and then can be stacked to give higher quality pictures afterwards.

Also wondering if a Dob alt-az mount auto tracking mount would be ok to use instead of a EQ mount? I appreciate the image will rotate from an alt-az mount if used for pictures on long exposures, but will astrovideo software sort this out aswell?

I`m currently looking at either a skyliner 250p with auto tracking or a 200p explorer on an eq5 mount.

Wondering what people thoughts are for astrovideo for live images?

Many thanks

Hello Trident.

I have a Samsung 435 colour integrating camera which I hope to use for solar imaging. It is, apparently well thought of as a deep sky colour video camera. The Feb 2011 issue of Astronomy Now has an in depth appraisal of this camera by none other than video astronomy "Guru" Steve Wainwright.

Hello Trident, heres a video ive taken using my SDC-435 and if you click on my videos you will find some more with various scopes ive used.

To modify the sdc-435 is VERY easy and just a matter of removing a few screw to take the IR filter off. (there are plenty of websites on the net showing how this is done)

I run my SDC-435 from my maplins 13.8v supply unit, and i have fitted an inline fuse holder (car/motorcycle type) with a 0.5 amp glass fuse.

edit:

Ha!..sorry Trident, i didnt check out your link, its the one to my youtube videos!:)

O well, they are soooooo good they are worth watching twice i guess!:p:D
