Meade Series 5000 80mm ED APO - What Mount?

Hello,

I am looking into buying the above (Meade Series 5000 80mm ED APO). I have also been looking at mounts for it, and it seems looking around that an EQ6 it mostly recommended. Is this because this little scope is actually quite heavy? I have an EQ5 with my Celestron C8, would this do?

An EQ6 would be recommended although depending what you're going to chick on your scope an EQ5 would probably so a decent job.

No need at all for the EQ6 in my view. It is no more accurate than the EQ5 and is overkill for a little refractor in terms of weight. The short FL will not tax guiding and setting up the EQ5 is easier than it is for for big brother.

The EQ6 though does have some redundancy and futureproofing as it will handle larger scopes in the future.

However if budget now is an issue then Olly has confirmed the EQ5 is up to the task in hand.

Thanks for advice guys, I think I'll start off by using the EQ5 I already have, it's much cheaper then having to purchase a motorized EQ6.

Maybe some day I will find a use in buying an EQ6 and will warrant the buy.
