Astro-Fix Locator anyone?

Hi,

S@N has this in its new equipment section:

Any one tried it?

Any idea if its accurate (a little worried about the "fix it to the scope with velcro") comment!

It does what it says on the tin. 1deg accuracy in az and 0.5 in alt but that not really much better than you can do with a Telrad and the constant checking the PDA, moving the scope, checking the 2 displays, moving the scope etc etc was too much hassle for me.

I had the same experience as Gaz. Star hopping gives you more of a sense of achievement.

Thanks guys, that pretty much what I assumed.

Could be good for a beginner on a budget ( = no goto, no argo navis) though...?

True, but a star atlas and a red dot finder is cheaper still.

I'd advise against it. Its some way short of the likes of Argo navis and very fiddly to use. As Mike says, some star maps and a Telrad would be a better bet IMHO.
