I had posted it yesterday here already:

http://stargazerslounge.com/imaging-deep-sky/124755-yet-another-first-m42-sorry.html

but I had to post it again as I have reprocessed it with some extra light frames that I had forgotten about. When I started imaging that night I had the capturing destination in APT set to camera only. A few frames later I changed it to PC + Camera but later I had forgotten about the frames that were only on the camera.

So I have re-processed with an extra 21x 60 sec frames in the stack bringing the total to about 50 minutes. And what a difference this has made !!

At the end of the session I thought I'd take a few frames of the Alnitak region. I got 20x 40 sec exposures (about 13 Minutes). Not expecting much I processed it anyway and was quite stunned by the result. I can see quite a bit of detail in the Flame Nebula and I can even see the outlines of the Horsehead!! :)

all images:

ISO800

EOS 1000D unmodded + APT

Celestron C8N on CG5-GT

2" light pollution filter

stacked in DSS
