Composite M42

At the end of my OAG alignment session I couldn't resist sending the scope down to look at a rapidly rising M42. I took 10x3m at 800asa with my unmodded 1000d on the C8 + 0.63FR + IDAS LPF. I then thought I'd have a go at a composite image where you layer in different exposure images in the bright trapezium region. I took 5x3m at 400asa and 5x3m at 200asa, then climbed the cliff face of try to figure out layer masks, etc, in PS. Anyway here is the result. I think its given me enough encouragement to go back and try it with a larger number of exposures, and do the layering a bit better! Thanks for looking.

Layered images look great and really improve the Trapezium area. Great image and I think you could even draw out a bit more of the cloudy stuff too. Keep tweaking - you're way ahead of me and most of us who read these pages - very impressed.
