Comet 164P - Recovery images

Using images taken today (Oct 28th) by Nick Howes, in a brief break from ongoing collaborative work imaging comet 103P turned Faulkes South on to comet 164P Christensen. Using Nick's data, which the CARA (Comet Research) group stated was "incredibly high resolution", the team were able to locate comet 164P/Christensen. This is an important achievement, since they were able to confirm without any doubt, a previous possible recovery image from their Tzec Maun site, about three weeks ago. This data batch from Faulkes South will also prove vital since it extends the observed arc for the current perihelion passage.

MPC submissions have been completed, and further monitoring of this very faint comet will continue

Wow Nick, that look's tiny! How do you locate such a thing? Do you have much larger images which you then compare with reference images or something, looking for differences or something?

It's close to mag 20, the recovery coordinates were online, so it was just a case of pointing and hoping it was there
