SynScan installation

Tip 1 is to learn to put the date in the US format otherwise it confuses it.

Tip 2 is not to forget tip 1.

Tip 3 is to always park the 'scope when you shut it down so it starts from where it thinks it should be when you power it up again for alignment.

Tip 4 is to pick one alignment star next to what you want to GOTO to, saves time.

Tip 5 is to pick stars widely spaced if you do a two or three point alignment.

Tip 6 is to change the tracking speed to Lunar if you aim it at the moon, or solar if you have suitable solar equipment (YOU NEED A FILTER!!)

Tip 7 is to fully charge the power pack (I leave mine plugged in all the time) as the GOTO uses the juice quickly.

Tip 8 is to have your thumb on the esc button incase anything hits while its slewing. Press esc to stop it.

Tip 9 is to move to somewhere where there are no clouds, beer is free and ....

8 should get you started.

edit: almost forgot, when you are supposed to be centreing the star for alignment the 'scope is not tracking so be aware of the star wandering off.

..... Tip 10: Don't try and power the mount using the ac adaptor that is actually intended to re-charge the power pack as I have just done - the motors don't respond and you think the whole things broken and start to panic..... then an hour later work out that the mount is intended to run from the power pack ..... and works just fine again once you plug it into that !!. Phew ....

You will notice that after aligning you get a readout of where the 'scope is pointing on the handset. Just move it until the 'scope is pointed in the correct direction and look down the hole. ISS moves far too fast to track so the best you might manage is point at where it's going to be and watch it fly past.
