CPC800 GPS setting

I have just been lent a CPC800 and would like to know if the GPS start searching when you just switch on the scope or do you have to select the alignment method to activate it?

Is there a way of telling if the GPS has been updated?

I have about 3 weeks to get my head around the 'scope to see if I like it and may be given the option to buy as my friend makes little use of it (and needs the money).

When I have had a chance to look at the 'scope and contents I expect there will be further questions! I have downloaded the manual but the issue regarding the GPS is not clear (at least to me).

HI Malcom,quick answer turn the scope on leave for 10 minutes it will pick up the satellites,,the hand set will tell you its ready and off you go,simple,if you move to a new location same procedure, after the first time it will do it in seconds.

It'll take about an hour outside to cool down to a workable temperature (if you bring it out of the house) - switch on for the last 20 mins or so of that hour and it will be ready to roll when you're ready to use it
