well we had our first lecture of the season last Thursday and it was delivered by Prof Mike Edmunds of Cardiff university he done a bot on the statistics in astronomy which was fascinating but he also spoke about the The Antikythera mechanism as he is part of the team that has been doing investigations on this item, he spoke to us last year on it and took this opportunity to give an update on progress. we know they had come close to understanding it but new technologies have allowed them to see inside the clock now and some of the footage he showed us were awesome there were images like you get from a cat scan layer by layer of one of the main pieces in minute detail.

so for those interested and have not seen this data it can be found Antikythera Mechanism located in Athens, Greece | Atlas Obscura | Curious and Wondrous Travel Destinations there are a number of pics below the main picture but there are two you tube videos in there as well well worth a watch.

yep seen a few of the article on the web and in some mags but hearing one of the people talking about the research and discussing the processes. Prof Edmunds has been looking at the true accuracy of the piece measuring the teeth pitch and calculating how accurate it would be in real terms and some of the figures we re surprisingly good whilst some were not so good i.e. some prediction would have been a few days out some would have been in the wrong month but that can be just one day the whole talk was fascinating. and to hear it first hand made it all the more real.
