Finding your target

Recommended Posts

Last night was a baptism of fire, it was the first time I really got the use out of my ATIK 314L+

The problem I'm having is I can seem to identify the faint DSO's they dont seem to be easily seen like the are on a DSLR image?

Whats you technique?

Cheers

Guy,

My method is to identify the starfield, then you know exactly where is the viewfield of your camera. I am using Skytools 3 Pro as skychart, it gives me the rectangular viewfield of my CCD, this makes the identification more easy. To be completely sure, I just make a preview exposure of 30-60s, there I should certainly see the DSO when stretching the histogram.

cheers,

Janos
