Deneb Tips

Hi

I plan to image Deneb using my Sony A350 (unmodded) and a Meade 14" (guided)- So I know its a bit of an open question but what sort of Subs should I go for I was thinking something in in the region of ISO 800 and 30 Sec Subs x 30 with associated darks, flats and bias

Thoughts appreciated

Deneb in particular? Or do you mean something nearby?

It's a first-magnitude star, so you'll saturate with anything other than very short exposures. Also no point in taking bias frames if you're taking equivalent darks.

It may sound strange but just Deneb, I have a book at home (cant remember its name) and there are some beautiful shots of individual stars such as Deneb and Aldebaran so I thought I might give it a go

Short subs it is then.

Have a look at Alberio as well, just beautiful.

Alberio's good, Polaris is good too as you get the companion star and the "diamond ring" asterism

thanks for the tips, cant wait to have a go think i will try 20 sec subs and see how i get on.

What are you going to be stacking the images in?

Some programs (notably DSS) handle the calibrationvframes differently... it might be worth takign a look at the help files for DSS to see which "calibration" files are required ...

Check out how DSS does its Calibration.... it uses the various files differentlly to Maxim for example...

Especially when it comes to using Bias Files...
