Could anyone please tell me the best way to mount a Synscan handset and motor controller onto an EQ3-2 tripod.

The brackets that come with the Goto upgrade are designed for a tripod with tubular legs so they dont fit the alloy tripod.

Personally, I simply stuck one of those square, self-adhesive. white plastic (Maplins etc.) cable-tie fixations to the top-back of the handset. A piece of (smooth, not hairy!) string threaded through the hole then allowed me to hang the handset from... wherever.

You can (carefully!) drill the case for a brass (hook and) eye. But I found that locating the hole in darkness could be bit tedious! The string loop just seems easier?
