Herschel Wedge and Focal Ratio

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just wondering if there is a relationship between focal ratio of refractor and quality of views when using a Herschel Wedge? Both refractors I use my Baader wedge with are f7.5 and they both give excellent results (with the larger aperture showing proportionatily more detail) but are these things designed to work better at some f-ratios than others?

Just curious...

No not really. The Herschell wedge is just a diagonal where the glass is "wedged" shaped to drop the light amd heat outside...the active optical surface is equivalent to a normal mirror diagonal, so the f ratio shouldn't make any difference.
