Jupiter, July 18th before the clouds...

A clear night for a change but I was glad I decided to start imaging Jupiter early as the clouds rolled in before it had reached its highest point in the sky. The seeing was fair when this capture was taken but the transparency was a bit up and down.

It does look good if the conditions are steady Alan - lots of detail to be had. Still a bit early morning though ;) Best of all, it's still got a way to go before it reaches it's maximum size for the year (and indeed for the next 13 years). At opposition, it'll be just under 50" across

This image was taken using a 2x Barlow. With the C-14, my 3x Barlow delivers a Jovian disk that barely fits on the imaging chip!
