The beauty of the OSC is that you can wander of and let it chunter away for five hours. Over at the other mount we were attacking something more involved so this suited me! 10 min subs, Atik 4000 OSC, TEC 140, EQ6.

The idea behind this (and hence the rather intense colour) is to get after the halo in Ha and O111 in the near future.

BTW, I always get a very black sky around M27 despite a 3 line whip on No Clipping. Anyone else find this?

New word "chunter" Olly?

Lovely image, great colours, so many stars and lovely colours in this area

Fay

Chunter, oh yes; to grumble away, tick over - marvellous word! Usually grumpy old men do it after the younger generation have played football on their allotments.

Ok, you're losing me in the jargon again, what is 'clipping?' But another great image, thanks Olly.

Clipping; when you stretch the faint data in an image to make it emerge from the black of night you also stretch the visual 'noise' that is an artefact of the camera. You cut this out of the histogram leaving only what should be there. The noise is the faintest part of the signal just above black. If you cut back too hard you also cut out the faintest real data leaving you with an artificially black sky. This heinous crime is known as black clipping and is particularly deplored by French imagers...
