filters and adapters - threads.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have bought my first 2" filter - a WO VR-1 for my achro refractor.

I usually screw filters into the eyepieces (always 1.25" in the past) and no problems. Trying to screw this one into the 2"-1.25" adapters or my 2" WO diagonal though and there seems to be 'paint' in the threads which makes the thing somewhat 'sticky'. I have not cross threaded the filter threads and worked it carefully back and forth to 'clear' the blockage. is this normal when using filters in adapters and diagonals for the first time?

I also think I am going to have to buy a longer adapter as my current ones (which are quite new) don't have enough clearance for the eyepiece barrels of the Powermate and Radian lenses I use - they touch the glass as I found out when I carefully inserted one for the first time when fitting the filter to the adapter.

I am going to leave the VR-1 on the diagonal at the scope end but will eventually be buying a moon filter and possibly a nebula filter in 2" in due course which will need to be fitted to the adapter or eyepiece as I have read that stacking filters is not good due to intra filter reflections?

cheers

Shane

From what I've heard a 14mm Baader Fine tuning ring screws onto the bottom of your 2" to 1.25" adapter giving enough clearence.

cheers Mick!:)

I'll look into it (pun intended!).

:p

brilliant! - looks like it was made for the job.

I'll order one with my next filter!

thanks a lot Mick.
