Sky @ Night Mag Free Filter

Recommended Posts

are not OVP the main dealers or importers for the skywatcher range of equipment ? or is that OVL ?

Yeah it's OVL, and yes, these filters do look exactly the same. well, to my weary eyes that is :(

It does make it very tempting as basically, if you were fancying one of the filters, and the reports do seem very good, you're basically buying the filter & getting the sub for free! But you never know if it IS the same one or some 'batch' as i said above, i'm sure someone in here will be able to confirm.

I hate to say this, but if you live in reasonably light polluted area (as I do) then the cheaper filters will not make a tremendous difference.

If you have slightly polluted skies you may find you prefer not to use filters as they make things funny colours and still don't really improve the sky much.

If you live in or near a largish town or city them a proper UHC type is the best bet for most objects and telescopes. For 8" scopes and above an OIII filter can be useful too, but is less general purpose.

If you like S@N magazine then certainly subscribe, but it's probably better if you don't do it just to get the filter as it's likely to a bit disappointing.

You have just given me an idea to do some more mini reviews on filters though! (I've been through a few)
