Will this ccd be ok

Recommended Posts

Hi alll , was wondering if anyone has used one of the cheap wirless ccd cameras from ebay on their scopes . The spec says its a Sony 1/3 ccd sensor with 0.3 lux sensitivity , thought it might be a cheap way of streaming wireless footage back to a usb video capture device or even my standalone hard disk recorder .

Thanks

The sensor might be fine but I think the weak link will be the wireless connection. For group visual observing, say infront of a monitor or on a plasma tv indoors it might be ok, but to use the captured stream to stack in registax the quality might not be as good as a wired connection.

I think the sensitivity will be too low to be useful, also these CCD cams ramp up the gain when looking at the night sky so they become extremely noisy. I tried it with a cam with 0.01lux sensitivity and it was no use. The wireless links can be pretty poor as Peter says.
