Thats an excellent capture and with some good tips from Mike you have processed it very nicely. All the feint muddy red nebulosity around often gets mistaken for noise and ends up being clipped out by raising the black point too high.

what were you settings for canon 1000D for this image?

As I have got the same camera and have not idea how to do DSO, can you give advice if I can use c.9.25 on CG-5GT with my 1000D to take on M42?

my setting on the 1000d are all standard setting on iso 800 im new to this imaging malark not been doin it a year yet im sure you can capture images of m42 with your scope though may be a bit big for your fov some else maybe able to help a bit more on this though
