WO rumour....

Have heard somewhere that WO are releasing a newer version of the zenithstar 66..

Am I dreaming or is there any truth?

Would seem sensible as it was / is a very useful and much lauded scope.

Any source or links? Would not surprise me as they were very popular and the 66 is considerbly smaller and lighter than the 70 & 72ED scopes that are out there,

e.g. 66 tube dia. 75mm weight under 4lbs

70 -72 tube dia. 87mm weight nearly 5lbs

Thats a big difference on a lightweight tripod.

Did the old 66 have a 2" rotatable focuser?

It had a 1.6" rotatable focuser with an SCT type thread. A 1.25" SCT visual back did come with it. If you wanted to use a 2" eyepiece you had to use an SCT type diagonal as if you fitted a 2" SCT visual back most push-fit diagonals wouldn't work due to not enough in-focus.

The focuser did rotate but not with the smoothness of the best. I tend not to use it because I fear a build up of play which might throw the back out of orthogonality.
