What is the best scope for astrophotography

For value for money surely nothing can beat the ED80 - with a flattener for larger chips. It is ridiculously good for the price. In fact it's just ridiculously good, full stop.

If you want to go on a mad spree at that sort of focal length, Takahashi FSQ 85 or 106 or Tak Epsilon widefield astrograph. I have an 85 and have seen the other two in action here. Brilliant.

Going even madder a TMB or Tak 6 inch refractor.

And then its the Ritchey Chrets and the land of dreams...

How long is a piece of string? That might seem a bit flippant but as you can see from Olly's reply, there are many, many options

It would be helpful therefore to narrow things down a little

1 What sort of budget do you have?

2 What mount will the scope go on?

3 What are you interested in imaging eg lunar, planets, planetary nebula, emission nebula?

4 Do you have an existing DSLR/CCD/webcam?
