Microguide 1st light

Used the Micro guide last night for measurments.

Thsi was only a preliminary test as I have not fully calibrated the system yet.

Roughly speaking each division is 7"

Attached are my initial results.

Seeing 3/5, Trans 3/5. occcasional strong gusts of wind.

This is an excel doc. Comparing my results with the WDS. My results are in bold.

I'm quite please with the initial results.

Okay Ian - tell me - what does a microguide do? Does it measure separation of double stars?

Sorry to be dim, but not heard of a microguide before. :insects1:

I use the Celestron Micro guide.

It is an eyepiece that has a protractor and bar etched onto the glass.

Most people use it to guide their asto imaging set up but it can be used to apparent measure planetary sizes.

As it has the protractor & linear scle it is ideal for measuring double stars.

The only limitation is that the illuminated scale make measuring anything fainter than 10th Mag difficult

this is what I love about this hobby, always something new to learn.

Just to be different I had a go at measuring HJ 1277

Alpha Ser. The companion is Mag 11.8 offically but I reckon it is closer to Mag 12.

I came up with PA 337 Sep 42".

Just got to check now.

Isn't it great - an amateur astronomer - and able to do REAL science.
