We like these!

The new Celestron Regal F ED spotting scopes feature premium quality fully multicoated air-spaced doublet objectives with an ED element for high contrast and excellent colour correction.

Celestron's marketing spiel describes the optic as "APO" with "one element of which is made from the exotic mineral fluorite". That might be over-gilding the lily but we do think it is almost certainly made from Ohara glass with a fluorite mix, probably FPL51 or FPL53. That alone is impressive but what makes these spotting scopes of particular interest to us is that they accept regular 1.25" astronomy eyepieces! There is no need for an adapter, you just pop the eyepiece into a neat collet-type holder and twist an outer-ring to lock them. You can even fit a DSLR using a barlow and T-Adapter. Fantastic!

So, if you are looking for a compact, convenient, portable scope for terrestrial observing, nature watching and astronomy then these deserve serious consideration. And they offer one with a 100mm objective!

For specifications and up-to-date prices please see our Celestron Spotting scope section.

Ahh... so that's how they are rationalising the ED series between Skywatcher and Celestron... Or is it :headbang:

One thing though Steve, there isn't any indication of focal length on your web page - how do we figure out what magnification you'd get with a particular euepiece :D

We are working on that, we hope to have the focal lengths of all three scopes later today :headbang:

Here we go :headbang:

Celestron Regal 65 F ED 390mm f6

Celestron Regal 80 F ED 480mm f6

Celestron Regal 100 F ED 540mm f5.4

It is early days but it would appear that eyepiece focal lengths up to 25mm can be used without vignetting. Also, there is sufficient room between the front of the eyepiece barrel and the telescope's prism-block to allow filters to be used.

The supplied Zoom eyepiece is actually rather good and can be used fitted to a regular astro scope, it is even threaded for filters!
