Curved vane secondary spider

Does anyone know a supplier for the curved vane type secondary spider? I assume I need an amateur telescope maker supplier - but I don't know any...

I think that Orion Optics UK can still supply them.

They work well on DSO's but aren't the best for planetary etc. Technically the curved vanes don't actually get rid of the diffraction spikes, they just spread out the spikes so that they aren't noticeable. This reduces overall contrast, which isn't a problem on DSOs, but when you're after every last bit of contrast (planetary etc.) the 4 vane spider would be the best choice.

I think John is right... there are some very detailed write ups on the pro's and con's or 3, 2 or curved spiders. Fact is, they are all compromised in one way or another and for some reason, I like to see the difraction effect on bright stars.

However.... beauty, is in the etc etc etc...

It really comes down to deciding what you will spend most time observing or imaging and then deciding which way to go.

The worst vane arrangement is probably the 3 vane straight spider which gives you SIX diffraction spikes.

Contact Hans at Destiny. A pleasure to deal with. Ordered a 3 vane curved spider and received it within a week.

Works excellent on my 8" F7. No spikes. Very easy to fit as it self centres.

Thanks, I think I'll stick with the 4-vane until I get my DSO imaging all sorted out, then maybe swap to a curved spider thereafter.
