Complete newb question this one

What cable / adapter do I need to connect the mounts ST4 port to the laptop for autoguiding please?

My laptop has a serial port, parallel port, USB and firewire.

I would like to use the most 'popular' technique if possible....

Cheers

Jon

I think the most "popular" method is to directly connect the camera's guider output port ( an ST-4 port) to the ST-4 on the mount.

The camera is then connected ( usually USB) to the PC which has to run a guiding software package ( Usually PHD). PHD then sends the guide control signal back to the camera ( using the USB connection) which then re-sends the signals in the correct "format" to the ST-4 on the mount, and hopefully majic happens.

If the guide camera doesn't have a ST-4 port then you'll need a USB > ST-4 connector like the SS GPUSB

The Shoestring Astronomy Store - Products

This connects the PHD software to the mount.

Hope this helps.
