Widefield from fixed tripod

This my first succefull widefield, so I still don't really know what I'm doing. This is the first one I was able to stack. This was from the 17th of October, and it has been overcast since then, but I think it's clearing up tonight

Stuck my Canon 1000D with the 18-55mm E-FS II on a tripod out on the balcony, and did 72 x 30 sec exposures in RAW, at ISO1600/18mm/f4. Also did 10 dark frames.

I stacked everything in DSS, and at first, the stack didn't appear to do much, but then: I slid the middle slider on RGB/K levels all the way to the left and got this. I was amazed at the result, but where did the colour go?

You got M31 ok though.
