40d is NOT full frame....

Full frame canon dslr's are a diifferent price league from the humbler APS sensor ones..

You are looking at £1800 ish for a Canon 5d mkII which are still having some issues with contrast. Although many more recent ones seem OK..

The 1d range are very heavy and very expensive..

if determined to have full frame, then a 5d mk I can be had second hand at around £800...

They are fairly well proven as astrocameras and can be modified.
