Hi Everyone,

This image was taken two weeks ago in south France, under real dark skies. We spent a week there but unfortunately had two of the 8 nights clear. Those two nights were fully used nevertheles :D. I was observing mostly visually with the 16" Lightbridge, but took some images as well.

I had my old SAC10 one-shot camera also with me, and I took this image of NGC5907 ( the Splinter galaxy ) with this 3.3Mp CCD camera, mounted on ED80. I took 20x6 min. frames with Nebulosity, processed with flats and darks and slightly cropped.

I am pleased with this first attempt, but this galaxy is not an easy one as I see.

cheers,

Janos

It is called the Splinter Galaxy and the dust lane and colour you have developed well and you got the faint extensions, not often imaged this one so great to see it here. John.

Thanks for your compliments mates, now I am sure I will use this "old" CCD more frequently .

One more detail about this image: I have captured the Splinter in a parallel Nebulosity session with the Canon 350D on the Zenithstar 70ED ( mounted "almost" parallel with ED80 on HEQ5, also 20x6 min. frames). I means Nebulosity can be started in two instances, connected to different camera's with eventually different capture parameters as well. This is a very nice feature of Nebulosity, I don't know which other astro imaging software is capable of doing it :D.

cheers,

janos
