Newton Telescope Field of view

Recommended Posts

I've just got a book full of star maps for each constellations and i just need to check something.

Say I'm looking for an object that is (on the map) left and up from a bright star, if i then have the bright star in the centre of my Field of view in a newt telescope would it be to the right and up from the star or right and down from the star? I.e. is it mirrored or inverted or something else?

I'm a little confused about which way to move the scope :?

CC is exactly right, once again. Which side the focuser is on has a LOT to do with how you perceive the image. When faced with this choice, I move the scope according to the chart, up and left, and ignore the view. Watch the STAR PATTERNS, not the direction from which they appear.
