Back garden observatory ?

Just a quick question, what do you think is easier/quicker/better/even cheaper. Modified garden shed or purpose built wooden observatory ? I am quiet DIY minded and am thinking of buying a pent shed and making a removable roof, or I could knock something similar up from scratch. Any advice. :o

Depends on how big an observatory you want...

probably 3m square or bigger would be cheaper built from scratch. Though depends on what sort of finish you want. I used osb and painted up it looks o.k. Except for one end, which is flaking a bit more now - but then its been up for 10years.

If your moderately handy, its not a difficult build.

If you use a conventional shed and rip the roof off, then you will need some additional structure in the roof and the shed to stop them falling apart. c.f. car monocoque shell and convertables.

Here's mine. The garden is a bit more overgrown now, though...
