White balance - Where to start

Hi

Im using an unmodded Sony A350 on a static tripod, i do stack and post process and am getting some reasonable results.

The Camera does have White Balance Options and I belive this can be an aid to a better outcome

I can change to some presets like Shade, Cloudy, Tungsten etc and then i can change the colour temp ranges from 2500k to 9900k and finally there is a Colour filter which ranges from ) to G1 throught to G9 and M1 through to M9

I have no idea were to start with this lot, pointers appreciated

If you are not using a light pollution filter then leave the camera on Sunny - this will give the correct colour to stars. If you use a light pollution filter then check out this site: Using a Custom White Balance
