Lx200 in Alt/Az mode???

Recommended Posts

I used my LX90 and LX200 in Alt-Az mode all the time. Never had a problem, but then i never did long exposure imaging so didnt really need an EQ mount and to polar align it.

The cost for a good EQ wedge to fit on the LX200 tripod is pretty high ( £450+), other possibility was a field rotator ( about £290) Those prices put me off!.

Why do you ask?

Just interested in how other Lx200 users use their scopes!!

I have a 10" and 12" Lx200 a heavy duty wedge and the Meade de-ratator.

I was using the 12" on a wedge for spectroscopy but reverted to the Alt-Az when I found I could guide in Alt-Az mode. I also found that field rotation wasn't an issue for me, so I was wondering how many others have found that using (and balancing!!) the Lx200 in Alt-Az is OK for many observing programs.
