Go To Upgrade

I took the opportunity this wet weekend to fit the SynScan upgrade to the HEQ5.

Upgrade went OK ,a bit fiddly in parts but didn't take very long.

The new motors make the mount really zip along. Fastest the old motors would go is 16X.

Now it's turbo charged at 200x!

Had a few 'dry runs' indoors using the go-to handset and it would appear to move as it should.

With the cloud and rain I couldn't test it outside - it's that 'new kit weather syndrome'

I mainly wanted the upgrade for the faster motors. I now don't need to keep to clamping and un-clamping the DEC and RA axes to move to another object manually. I can just set the mount up once, clamp the axes and that's it.

I've got my new (to me!) EQ6 Skyscan mount still in it's boxes thanks to the weather.

Quite fancy one myself for the HEQ5 not sure if i should go the skywatcher route though?

TS in Germany sell some faster/better motors than the standard ones but they're not any cheaper than the SkyScan upgrade.

TBH I can't think of a reason why not to go with the Skywatcher one.
