Is 60mm enough for guide scope?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, Has anybody sucessfully autoguided with a 60mm refractor as a guide scope?

I plan to use a meade DSI mk 1 as an autoguider and have just got hold of a bog standard 60mm refractor and wonder if this will work.

Cheers.

Obviously depends on what you're trying to use as a guide star ... the more adjustment you have in aim of the guide scope, the smaller the guide scope you can get away with. 60mm sounds a bit small but with decent ring mounting allowing the guide scope to be offset from the imaging field by several degrees & a reasonably sensitive guide cam you should be OK.
