Sun Today!

Saw on SpaceWeather.com -- News and information about meteor showers, solar flares, auroras, and near-Earth asteroids that the sun had a couple of sun spots that you could actually see on the image! The last couple were pretty small. So carted the scope downstairs and out the back for a bit of a look. Very cool, actually I thought I was melting but the sight was cool. :)

The mark near the bottom is either on my camera sensor or on mirror.

I zoomed in abit to show the line of spots.

The large one had a sort of horse shoe appearance.

I'm pretty pleased.

Nice - the coarse mottling is visible - what equipment are you using? Also it's good form to give the time (accurate to the nearest minute if at all possible).

I had reasonable conditions today & managed this

Not a lot more was visible with narrowband filters (hydrogen alpha or calcium K) today ...

Thanks Brian,

Scope: Skywatcher 250px Dob with baader solar filter.

Camera: Canon 350DT in prime focus.

Settings: ISO 200 shutter speed 1/640

Date and time: 23/6/09 19:25

Location near Belfast.

I could see a bit of movement in the air but it seemed reasonably steady.
