Starter Scope

Right peeps been reading through the forums etc, and looking to get a good starter scope. I like the look at the Nexstar 6SE. But can you think of any better scopes out there?

Goto softwar would be a nice to have but not essential, my main priority is portabilty as i live in an apartment.

Want to look at planets and deep sky objects (i dont want much do i!)

So any suggestions most welcome

If I may answer a question with another question, what sort of budget have you got?

The NS6 isn't a bad idea though if you want something portable:).

Sorry forgot to but the budget down! about £600ish happy to go a bit higher if the scope is worth the extra.

I think you might have hit on just the right combination of portability and aperture with the Nexstar 6SE. If you allow a bit extra you can get an F/6.3 focal reducer which will give you lower power, wider views for DSO's without compromising optical quality.

I used to have a Nexstar 5 which I used as a "grab and go" like this and I enjoyed it a lot - the 6 would show you that bit more.

Do also budget for a dew shield - they should be supplied as standard equipment with SCT's in my opinion !.

Have to agree with John, making repeated trips up and down stairs will soon wear down your enthusiasm so I think you're onto a winner with the NS6.
