Had my Ha scope out for this first time in months and got to see the prom. Was massive! Quick phone pic.

Wonderful to sit and watch . At one stage it looked like a fish , ending up in a fountain of plasma . Lots heading off into space .

I followed the evolution of that prom for an hour or so: it was amazing, the most impressive thing that I've seen in the relatively short time that I've had my Lunt scope. It went from bushy, to a huge flame shape, with material arcing back to the surface, and then had pretty much vanished for me by c.2:30 pm. I took a couple of not very good shots using my phone, as I had to have some visual record of it! Please excuse the photo quality: I'm no astrophotographer.

You may like this animation I made from the GOES-18 SUVI (Solar UltraViolet Imager) data available to download from NOAA covering 1100 to 1600 on Feb 12. Frames are at 4 min intervals. The 304 angstrom (30.4 nm) filter shows proms the best. 🙂
