How to add a custom landscape in stellarium

Recommended Posts

Has anyone got a good how on this subject please. Ive watched a few YouTube videos and either the software needed is not available or some other issue.

I have a Samsung s20fe and it wont take a 360 panorama so need other software for that also.

my back yard has a few trees and nearby buildings that get in the way so after 18 months of imaging I have finally decided to make a custom landscape.

Could you not take a series of overlapping stills covering your 360 degree view and give them to Microsoft ICE to stitch? Or make several panoramas, save them, and, diotto, give them to ICE to stitch?

I've added a custom landscape to Stellarium so that I know what objects are obstructed by my local skyline and I find it very useful.

I didn't take a 360 degree photograph and instead measured the minimum altitude I could see at 5 degree azimuth positions using the actual scope that I use on the night in the actual position it gets used. I've recently updated this as I've changed mounts. The local horizon then appears as a yellow line on the Stellarium sky chart.

It was quite a job to work out how to create the custom landscape and there are some idiosyncrasies to be aware of, so I wrote a post about it at the time which you can see here.

ICE is no longer distributed by Microsoft, but the MSI s are available from Archive.org as per the links here
