Supernova SN 2024gy & comet 62p, using just a DSLR on a tripod !

Recommended Posts

Thanks to @tomato's SN alert in c e heads-up.
4am on the morning of 23Jan was the first clear(ish) sky to have a go at SN 2024gy. With a close moon and drifting thin clouds I was not hopeful but it was a chance to get another go at comet 62p in the same field of my 50mm f1.8 vintage lens.
Only 174x5sec subs were usable, top in the pic attached. (DSS & Gimp)
To my surprise the approx mag 12.8 SN was (just!) captured as well as NGC 4216

and after the Nth hour of contemplating my little experiment I have just discovered that asteroid (23)Thalia was passing M98

all I need now is an equatorial platform , , and maybe a longer better lens , , and rabbit slippery hole and slope are words that spring to mind :) :)
