Great framing.What I found is once you start guiding other factors start to show themselves.to me it looks like focus may be ever so slightly soft - and it makes a big difference, the extra contrast helps capturing the detail wispy stuff ...If you PM me you postal addy i'll pop you something in the post that may just help Peter... I've not tried Neat Image, I use noise ninja, although I suspect the controls are very similar, see if you can't hammer the background into submission with it, but use a selection to protect the galaxies, then invert the selection and process them much more gently.
