Sky-Watcher SynScan V5 Hand Controller

Recommended Posts

Hi

has anyone used the Sky-Watcher SynScan V5 Hand Controller for operating the AZi GTI mount as opposed to using their phone or tablet and if so is it better/ more user friendly - any advantage over the phone based app??

I've never used an AZ GTi but to me I prefer a hand controller simply for its tactile feedback. I can feel the directional buttons with my fingers in the dark whereas with a phone I would often hit the wrong button. It also saves my night vision with not constantly having to look at my phone.

My thoughts are I’m using my laptop and I agree that the mobile is possibly the way forward but I also like a handset and agree about the buttons bosun21- be into know if anyone has had any issues using the phone app?

I agree the handset is more tactile. However I found I soon got the feel of the app.also if you have your mount alignment good the need to slew the mount to center a object is not required very often,I am speaking in my case now. But as already been said it's what feels best for you.Hope I've been of help😃

If you have other screens nearby like laptops or are doing EAA or AP then the synscan app would be easier. However for purely visual I prefer the handset.

Why would it be easier if using a laptop please ?

As you will already have affected your night vision with the laptop so you may as well use the app. It's when slewing at the eyepiece I find the hand controller better.
