Ok I have an EQ6 Pro mount and I can connect it to my laptop. I can move it around using eqmod. 

PH2 seems to be able to communicate with it (I've tried the other options for different mounts the one I choose doesn't throw up any errors) 

My question is

When it's calibrating, it's really really slow. 

which in turn causes me other problems later on. 

I use the ZWO mini and a small 30mm scope.

I use an Asiair now so haven’t used PHD2 for a while. I would suggest calibrating near the celestial equator first, then try increasing the calibration step size, I think it will work out the correct step size for you under a setting

You need to go into Eqmod setup change Ra and dec rates to at least 0.8 from 0.1 default  , calibration should be between 8 min and 12 , also make sure phd2 you input your guide scope and guide camera settings.

Very new to this guiding malarkey and didn't want to start changing setting to much or would get myself in alsorts of trouble

If you’re being recommended settings by people who know a lot more about guiding than me, I would definitely listen to them. I’d advise you to do the same thing.

Bottletopburly is referring to the EQMOD "ASCOM PulseGuide setting", a well documented trap for the newbie.

While on the subject of EQMOD, why does it take so many settings to drive an EQ mount ?

The ASCOM driver for my Meade LX200GPS has about five settings.

Here is a guide to setting up Eqmod from the APT forum it’s a general guide and so makes no difference if your using Astophotographytool
