A supplier, Highpoint Scientific is running a 10% off sale on its ZWO cameras.

Has me scratching my head now, considering a camera to get away from my Canon.

The ASI224 MC Color is costing $179.00. For planetary with my 8" fl1000, would that be a decent choice?

It's an adequate planetary camera. But there are later models with smaller pixels that match better with typical planetary scopes, e.g. no Barlow needed with a SCT or Mak.  With a ASI224MC and a f5 scope you'd want to use a Barlow lens of around x3.

They're on sale here too.

The 224 is a great camera for planetary, I also use it for autoguiding. I also have the 485 which is also good. If you're planning on doing some DSO the 85 series will be better (585 is the newest) as you can expose for at least 120s, the small pixels and resolution will also allow a decent 2x bin.
