RichieJarvis
Found this one on the chart, and thought I'd give it a go...Heres the data from CdC: (btw, what does the stuff in bold mean??)GalaxyNGC 4236Magnitude: 9.60Surface Brightness: 15.00Dimension: 22.6 x 6.9 'Position Angle: 162Class: SBdDescription: vF,eL,mE160,vgbM H V 51 P w Ho 357b @ 9' L F spiral structure Name: UGC 7306 Constellation: DracoSo far this is 13 x 300 second L and 9 x 600 second L taken over 2 nights.Hoping to gather some more and maybe some colour if it works out. This is stacked and DDP'd, but no flats.Cheers,Richie
GazOC
The numbers/ letters in bold are galaxy classification short hand, They give shape, brightness, light distribution (bright/ faint core etc) etc of galaxies.Very nice capture,
jgs001
very nice Richie, I see what you mean, that is a faint looking thing.
RichieJarvis
Your High-Pass filter method worked well: High Pass Filter TechniqueWhere did you say you'd heard about that??Richie
jgs001
It was on here in one of the Lunar threads... I can't recall who mentioned it originally. If you set the blend mode to softlight prior to running the high pass you can see the effect of the high pass sharpen before applying it and can adjust the amount. RichieJarvis
Gotcha Heres a bit more data - now got 13 x 300 and 16 x 600 - getting a bit smoother....Do you think colour will come out in an object this dim with an SXV-H9 and RGB filters? What about Ha regions as well?Cheers,Richie
661-pete
Very nice clear galaxy shot - I'd say try for colour, yes! Not sure whether to put this one on my own TODO - it looks rather difficult.Just to clarify, the Description text which you queried about, is Dreyer's own shorthand description of the object, taken from the original NGC. Here is a crib. I've memorised some of the shorthand, I find the annotation quite useful in deciding whether it's worth trying for an unfamiliar object. HTH. RichieJarvis
Well - I tried for colour... Its a really really dim [removed word]! Out of the subs I captured, here is the final tally.First night, I shot 13 x L at 5 minutes, threw away 0 (total time: 65 minutes )Second night, I shot 17 x L at 10 minutes, threw away 8 (total time: 80 minutes )Third night, I shot R-10x200, G-15x200, B-12x200 (33 + 50 + 40 = 123 minutes)Heres the result: Thanks for looking!Richie
RichieJarvis
Ok ok, that was awful - I hate it - its blocky, vulgar and rotten...So I redid it Heres the new version:This version used less of Noise Ninja, and I deconvolved the central sections to try and bring out some of the lovely detail. I think it worked....Thanks for looking (again)Richie
