Astro Mod of a Canon 700D

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon guys n gals,

I have a canon 700D which I want to get astro modded.

After reading many forums and watching YouTube videos, I think a LPF2 ha mod is the best for me. The way I understand auto focus and infinity focus is retained.  I can even, if I wish, still ise the camera for daytime photography using custom white balance.

My questions are....

Is this the best mod for astrophotography of DSO's

Is a full spectrum mod better

Will I need additional filters clip in or screw on (if using a camera lens) for either mod

Thank you in advance

Clear skies

I have an Astro modded Canon 700d.  It was modified from new for me by Juan Fierros at Cheap Astrophotography and I think his work is very good.

It has the Baader filter mod described on Juan's web site and I certainly use it for day time terrestrial photography, with the custom white balance.

Here's one of the daytime pics:

and one of the night time ones:

and one shot through a 7nm Ha filter:

Hi Richy

If you've read all the forums you'll know that a Full Spectrum mod will need at least a UV/IR filter on a refractor, to prevent "star bloat".

Best mod if you are always going to use narrow-band, pollution etc filters.

A good Ha modder will adjust the sensor to retain Autofocus, or if you want will add a Baader filter to compensate.

Hanks Michael, I'm in a bortle 6 area.

I have used a light pollution filter but not always. I have been adjusting in photoshop.

I haven't gotten into narrow band filters yet.

I'm certainly edging towards Ha mod.
