A short Spaghetti

This is a target I have wanted to do since first seeing the images of it on this site. I have always considered this target as one of the big boys targets and all ways found an excuse not to try for it. Over the last few weeks I have been chipping away at it with bits of data when the sky would let me and although I havent really done it justice after 13hrs on it I could not do another night on it and feel its time to move on. So here it is 205 x 240s subs taken with my ASI 2600mc and optalong Extreme filter. I have to say to my eyes it looks more like Porky Pigs head than spaghetti!

Hints, tips and CC welcome.

Thanks for looking.

That's looking great @simmo39  I think resampling the data has helped and you've got some great OIII coming through.  Well worth those many sessions!

Minor thing, but a little extra background colour balance work, although I appreciate there is faint Ha all round here.

Thank you, I have tried a few things on getting the background levels better but no luck so far, Ill keep tweaking and see where it goes.

Not sure if this is any better but I think the background is a little less red.

It's tricky isn't it!

The latest version lost a little of that super OIII from the structure that the top one had - sorry!  Maybe a blend of the two?

It's nice to see others having the same challenges with this one 😅

Hi, when I looked at the second version this morning I could see loads wrong with it. To much looking in one go i think. I will have another go with the data later on but I think it needs more subs to get the best out of it. Was going to try and get more data tonight but life is getting in the way. hopefully tomorrow I will be out to play.

Not at all!  Both are very good images and show excellent, clean structure.  You've done extremely well with the data you have.

From experience I know how frustrating Sh2-240 can be to get "just right" in our own eyes.  If you don't get a chance to get more data, you should be very pleased with this one.

You are being kind, thank you. Funny how some targets just dont want to play, I have a few that never seem to come out the way I like no matter what I throw at them.

That’s a really fine Spaghetti Nebula.
Once you have the fundamentals in place, I think it’s good to have a go at some of the more challenging targets, at the end of the day most of them just need more integration than the brighter ones. Wierdly, I find they can sometimes be more straightforward to process since they often don’t have the big dynamic range issues that M31 and M42 have, for example.
