From Barnard 150 to NGC6946 - wide and deep

Inspired by @Xiga recent excellent image of Barnard 150, I had another go at my RASA8 data from September 2020 now using a starless approach. Like Xiga I find this area of nebulosity quite colourful. This is nr 150 in Barnard Catalogue of Dark Markings in the Sky and is usually presented as a quite dark, even black, nebula. However, it is clear that Barnard 150 is far from black, but quite colourful and part of a larger area of faint nebulosity including some blue reflection nebulae. A bonus in this image is the grand design spiral galaxy NGC6946, aka The Fireworks Galaxy.

Materials & Methods: RASA8 with ASI2600MC (no filter) on a NEQ6pro. 19 x 10 min, so about 3 hours. Processed in PI and PS, including StarXTerminator and Noise XTerminator.

Cheers, Göran

Very impressive Göran. There is more of interest and colour in the dust than the 'little' galaxy, in the more wide field view. 😊

Alan

Thanks Alan! It is just difficult to grasp that the galaxy is so much much much further away🤔

Woah, that's deep Goran! I love the deep brown colour in your dust, and i really like the areas of blue reflection nebulosity you've picked up. Very nice!

Thanks a lot Ciarán, much appreciated! This one was really rewarding to re-process with StarXT to find what was really there behind the stars🙂

Here is the original version from 2020 before I had starless processing: https://www.astrobin.com/qm795u/D/
