Which crater did I see last night?

I’ve looked at maps online and paper but can’t decide which it was- the almost full moon was mostly bland but there was an incredible crater on the terminator- textured terraces and a large equally textured prominence at its centre accentuated by the harsh shadows in superb clarity of seeing. Might have been Humboldt?

Hi Mark,

From your description, yes it was Humboldt. I was out too, with the little 76mm but it still looked amazing. Very stark and complex shadows, really nice.

Poor smartphone pic for reference.

Have you tried the NASA lunar simulator? Very good for visualising the terminator realistically, although the labelling could be more extensive.

This is the one for 2022:
