48mm filter and skywatcher Flattener/reducer

Recommended Posts

Hi I’d really appreciate some advice on my best route for introducing a 48mm/2” filter into my system. I’ve just picked up an evostar 72ed for imaging and have the skywatcher flattener/reducer 0.85 and included was a 48mm baader uhc filter but can’t believe there’s nowhere to screw the filter into the reducer without buying the FLO filter adaptor which I don’t think will work with my first version 72ed as it will mess up my back focus distance as my version has longer tube than later 72ed. I’m looking at options I use canon 600d unmodded at present but I’m getting that done soon but I don’t want to go clip in as restricts options as was looking at L-extreme filter. As I see it may be best to buy a new flattener with a 48mm filter attachment such as Hotech/OVL and sell skywatcher reducer/flattener. Any ideas would be very appreciated.
Thanks

Didn’t know that existed looks like an ideal option for my set up. I’m guessing it will work with all 48mm/2” filters as I’m looking  at purchasing a L-extreme sometime? Currently have the baader uhc-s which came with second hand 72ed but haven’t had chance to try yet cause couldn’t attach. Thank you so much for your advice much appreciated

Yes, all 2"/48mm filters.

Isn't the skywatcher flattener/reducer threaded to takes filters on the end that goes into the focuser?

Don't think so. Think they have an M54 or M56 thread that goes directly onto the focuser. They do a nosepiece that you can use but with the 72ED I don't think there's enough inward focus to fit the nosepiece.

@david_taurus83

thats great news thanks looks like a good answer to my problem if can use with more filters than just clip in eos as may in the future invest in dedicated camera

@Starflyer

no I thought it would seeming it’s designed for imaging but it’s only got I think it’s M56 female thread to attach to scope. FLO do a filter adaptor but saw a reviewer say doesn’t work with first version 72ed cause has longer tube than the newer 72ed so affects back focus. Think I read and got that right? Lots to learn in this hobby back focus distance different size threads etc but that’s also why I’ve been sucked into this hobby
